This week is Active Week for our school. Here are a few ideas to get your Active Week off to a great start. I would really love to see some photos of you all as you explore different ways to stay active and healthy this week.
Run: Sometimes basics are best. I know all the boys love to run, so do that! Run laps of the garden together, chase each other around the house, race from one end of the garden to the next. Be spontaneous and have fun.
Cycle: I’ve seen photos of some of the boys on their bikes over the past few weeks so if you can, get out on your bikes and see how far or how fast you can go.
Dance: Why not try a good old fashioned game of musical statues. When the music plays you dance, and when the music stops, freeze.
Splash: We have been learning all about capacity, so let’s put that knowledge to the test. Get out the paddling pool and make a splash, turn on the hose and have a water fight. Being active is also about having fun.
Use active week as a chance to revise your learning in different ways.
Jump: draw out the letters on the ground (use chalk, tape or even on a large piece of cardboard) Start calling out instructions and your son has to jump from one to the next. Of course you can get involved too and ask your son to call out letters for you. You can use numbers, words or shapes for this activity either.

Hopscotch: usually we use numbers when playing hopscotch but you could also use letters, words, shapes or colours. Make sure you call out whatever it is you land on as you play.
Throwing game: Again this can be done with numbers, letters, words, colours or shapes. Lay out the cards on the ground. Use a bean bag, ball or even a rolled up pair of socks. One person can call out the number, letter, word, colour or shape and the other has to throw and aim to land on the correct one.
Obstacle course: Here are a few ideas for obstacle courses you can set up in your garden or house. Get creative with whatever you have available to you. Also it might be a good idea to change the obstacle course a little each day as we know it’s good for the boys to get used to change.
Chose a card and do the action. The whole family can do this together with each person taking a turn to chose a card. You could even add some extra excitement by using these cards in a game of Simon Says. There are also animal themed ones if you like.

Moving bingo. Pick a picture, do the action and then see if you have a match on your board. Each player could get their own board and play just like regular bingo.

Scavenger hunt:
- You can use the bingo cards above for this one or make your own to suit you. One person hides the cards all over the garden or house. The other player(s) get a board each. Set up a timer and race around the garden to find all the cards on your board.
- Colour hunt. Can you find something in your garden for all of these colours? Add a timer if you want to make it extra exciting.
Sports Day
Why not have a proper sports day at home. You could have prizes, teams, ice-cream and even a water fight to finish it off. Here’s a reminder of some traditional sports day games.
